Food For People's Pets
02:14 PM MST on Tuesday, June 26, 2007
Food for People’s Pets will provide meals free of charge for the cats and dogs of homebound, low-income, elderly or disabled people. Companion animals can be very important to homebound individuals. They can provide companionship, diversion and even a reason for living. The mission of the program is to help keep people and their companion pets together by eliminating one of the financial impediments to proper pet care.
The Hermitage Cat Shelter gets pet food donations from the community on an ongoing basis. Because our cats only eat specific brands (oh yes, they are that finicky), many of these food donations can not be used by the shelter. The Hermitage will be working with the Tucson area food pantries (Salvation Army, Tucson Area Christian Fellowship, Interfaith Community Services, El Rio Neighborhood Center) who will be giving this donated pet food to the needy. Each pantry has hundreds of needy people. Bashas’ will also be participating by having food bins in their stores for people to drop off food donations. The Hermitage Cat Shelter will be a drop-off as well, 5278 E. 21st St.
