Tucson Women’s Chorus
10:11 AM MST on Tuesday, April 29, 2008
The Tucson Women’s Chorus is an a cappella group singing chants, rounds and songs from many cultures and traditions around the world. Most of the members have never been in a singing group before joining this chorus, much less performed. There are no auditions and no sightreading of music. Every song is learned by heart in rehearsals based on the call-and-response method that is native to most cultures, as well as being how all of us learned songs as children.
Girls are encouraged to join at no charge with a participating adult. Scholarships available for those in need. This is a “grassroots chorus” for all women and girls wishing to sing, regardless of experience.
This open-to-all policy carries over to concerts, where no tickets are sold, but donations are requested at the door.
The group ranges in size from 30 to 50 members and has been together for six years.
The Tucson Women’s Chorus Spring Benefit Concert will be held Saturday, May 17, 7 PM, in the sanctuary of St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, 3809 E. 3rd St. Concert donations will support the chorus and the Pat Dell Memorial Scholarship Fund. Suggested adult donation is $10. Children are welcome.
