TUCUMCARI, N.M. (AP) -- Former Beatle Paul McCartney and girlfriend Nancy Shevell made at least a couple of stops in New Mexico in a cross-country trip along old U.S. Route 66.
McCartney and Shevell visited an antique shop and a restaurant in Tucumcari on Thursday, then stopped in Gallup on Saturday to take in dances at the 87th Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial.
Dario Chioda was in the announcer's booth at ceremonial when he learned McCartney was in the audience.
But he says McCartney motioned that he wanted to keep his visit quiet.
McCartney and Shevell began their journey from his holiday home in The Hamptons, New York on July 31th.
They picked up the old Route 66 in Illinois on their way to Santa Monica, California.
