Nogales Profiles
Host Bob Lee introduces us to cultural entities and leaders of the Nogales
community.
Produced by the KMSB-TV Public Affairs Department, Nogales Profiles,
is a two-minute program addressing events, defined community problems,
and issues and featuring Nogales and Santa Cruz County community
leaders. Topics are determined through the station's on-going ascertainment
process in Nogales. It is videotaped weekly at KMSB-TV's office/studio
located at 441 N. Grand Ave. #17, in Nogales, AZ.
Thursday, 10/9/08, 6:55 AMOctavio Garcia-Von Borstel, Mayor, City of Nogales, says the original City Hall at Morley and Crawford is now the location of the Pimeria Alta Museum. He says a restoration program has begun, thanks to a $100,000 grant from the Tohono O’Odham nation. He says an additional $50,000 from the Tribe has also been earmarked for other city improvements.
Friday, 10/10/08, 6:55 AMConnie Hutzel, SCC Young Audiences, says YASCC programs are made possible with the support of City, County and State funding. She says only two major fundraisers are being conducted this year. The first is the 10th Annual Golf For The Arts golf tournament October 11 at Palo Duro Creek Golf Club. In the spring, it will be the Mark Wood “Electrify Your Strings” concert event February 20. Hutzel says Young Audiences has been an arts education provider in Santa Cruz County since 1971.
Monday, 10/13/08, 6:55 AMOlivia Ainza-Kramer, Nogales SCC Chamber of Commerce, says in an effort to assure a large turnout at the polls November 4, the Chamber is sponsoring a “meet the candidates” forum. She says all local candidates for office, including City Council, Board of Supervisors, state legislature and for Congress have been invited to participate. She says the forum will take place at 6 PM, Thursday, October 23 at the Oasis Cinema.
Tuesday, 10/14/08, 6:55 AMGreg Lucero, SCC Manager, says the County’s 2008-2009 budget, totaling nearly 70-million dollars, has been approved by Supervisors. He says there is a 3-million dollar gap between expected revenues and expenditures, so some staff cuts will be necessary, raises will be frozen and vacant positions will remain vacant.
Wednesday, 10/15/08, 6:55 AMJohn Hays, SCC Floodplain Coordinator, says regulating the growing and changing floodplains in Santa Cruz County can be challenging, especially with virtually no staff. He says soil in SCC is rich in clay which tends to seal the surface. He says this causes the water to run off into washes and streams which can overflow onto properties on a designated floodplain area.
