Tucson Music Melee 2006

There is still some time until the 2007 Music Melee gets in full swing. In the meantime, please explore this melee page to relive our first melee, or see what you missed.

The Melee was intended to be a music free-for-all. We wanted to throw bands of all different genres and experience levels into a mix and introduce audiences to local bands they might not hear otherwise.

The crew had a good time putting it together and all indications were that the crowd enjoyed themselves as well.

Please check out our slideshow. SLIDESHOW: 2006 Tucson Music Melee Concert

Below you'll find staff picks and all our Melee entries. We invite you to browse it all. But don't forget these Melee Concert videos:

We were introduced to some very impressive local talent and we’re interested in continuing to share local music with the community.

Staff Picks

Loveland

“My favorite band on the site is Loveland.  Their songs are understated and extremely well written. It's unfortunate that alt-country is such a niche genre because these guys deserve to be seen and heard by more people.”
- John, Promotions

Leila Lopez

“Leila Lopez stands out in the crowd of screamers and monotonous off the shelf sound a-likes. She understands how to deliver the song with all of the little moments and she keeps me leaning forward to hear some kind of secret. Songwriting is really tough, and to pull off an original song with out completely spelling out your influences is a gift. I don't think she is doing well in the contest, but I'd for sure go see her if she is playing in town.”
- John, Sales

Orbital Bettie

“There're too many choices, but if I have to, I'll go with Orbital Bettie. Simply love the slow groove. Combine that with solid, enchanting vocals and you've got some very sexy music. But I have to give props to Leila Lopez. Love her vocal quality and I'd love to see her rock the guitar a little more. The Wyatts look like an easy choice for one heck of a fun live show.”
- B. C., Internet

PH8

“They remind me of Stone Temple Pilots. Great lyrics.  Great rhythm. Very easy to relate to on a musical level. I love them.”
- Alyson, Sales

Dharma Bums

“I can hear The Allman Bros., The Monkeys, and Gary Neuman!”
- Lou, Operations
