CLIFF CROFFORD OBIT
ONTARIO, Calif. (AP) — The singer-songwriter who wrote Walter Brennan's 1962 hit about a farmhand with big dreams, called "Old Rivers," has died. Cliff Crofford would have been 80 in a couple of weeks. The Bakersfield Californian and Ontario Daily Bulletin say he had a massive stroke and died November 22. Though he was widely-known for Brennan's talking-song, "Old Rivers," Crofford performed his share of rockabilly and was part of the Bakersfield Sound. In the late 1970s and early '80s, Crofford wrote music for films, including "Every Which Way But Loose," ''Any Which Way You Can," ''Bronco Billy" and "Sharkey's Machine."
