KRIS ALLEN AND ALLISON IRAHETA RING IN THE NEW YEAR
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kris Allen's New Year's Eve is going to be about glitz, and Allison Iraheta's (eye-rah-HEE'-tahz) will be about zippers. They're playing in Las Vegas for the "Billboard's New Year's Eve Live" special on Fox, along with Sean Kingston. Allen has never been to Las Vegas before, and he says even though he's known as a down-home guy, he can have fun in Vegas too. This year's celebration has to be better than the one he had last year. Allen hosted a party on a rooftop with sparklers and a guest's pants caught on fire. Iraheta says she plans to wear a dress with a big zipper on it, and Allen jokes he's wearing a zipper dress too.

MICHAEL JACKSON'S "THRILLER" NAMED TO NATIONAL FILM REGISTRY
WASHINGTON (AP) — Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video will be the first music video to be named to National Film Registry of the Library of Congress. The library preserves 25 films each year considered to be culturally or historically important. Steve Leggett of the National Film Preservation Board says "Thriller" was considered for inclusion in past years, but the time was right to include it following Jackson's death. He says the board also wanted to include a representation of music videos because of the way the recording industry is evolving.

LAMONT DOZIER: CIVIL HARMONY THROUGH MOTOWN
WASHINGTON (AP) — Songwriter Lamont Dozier believes Motown did as much for the civil rights movement as some of the movement's biggest leaders. Dozier says as whites caught on to the Motown sound and saw those artists perform on TV, they realized that blacks were not that different. He says the Motown legacy continues, because right now those songs are being played somewhere in the world.

The house is covered floor to ceiling with photos, figurines, cardboard cutouts, candy wrappers, clocks and other Elvis memorabilia.
