PHOENIX (AP) — A Phoenix man has pleaded guilty in federal court to robbing four banks in Arizona in 2006 and 2007.
Federal prosecutors say 26-year-old Michael Yanni entered his plea Monday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix. He's scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 18 and prosecutors say Yanni faces up to 80 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
Yanni admitted to robbing banks in Scottsdale, Phoenix and Carefree between June 2006 and March 2007.
Authorities say in each of the bank heists, the robber asked a teller to make change for a large bill and then reached over the counter and grabbed money cash drawers.
Yanni was arrested after an anonymous tip to Scottsdale police in December 2008.
