PHOENIX (AP) — Federal authorities say they have arrested 102 people in the Phoenix metropolitan area and Yuma with ties to 19 street gangs.
The arrests announced Tuesday were part of an initiative by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to dismantle streets gangs nationwide. The arrests were made from Aug. 15 to Saturday.
ICE officials say 39 of the arrests were in Mesa, eight each in Phoenix and Chandler and three each in Tempe, Apache Junction and Guadalupe.
Of the arrested, 26 were U.S. citizens while 76 were people from other countries. Those arrested could face charges that include immigration violations as well as various criminal offenses such as assault, parole violations, burglary, possession of narcotics, conspiracy to distribute marijuana and aggravated assault.
