PHOENIX (AP) — Peoria Police Chief Larry Ratcliff says he plans to retire in February.
The 63-year-old Ratcliff was hired as the department's deputy chief for operations in 2002 and stepped in to replace former Chief David Leonardo in October 2006.
The City Council officially hired Ratcliff as interim police chief in July 2007. Ratcliff said Wednesday that he has no plans to enter the private sector and instead plans to spend more time with his family.
Peoria officials say they hope to have a new chief by mid- to late March. The city manager will name an acting chief to fill the position between Ratcliff's retirement, effective Feb. 1, and the expected hiring date.
