Mesa woman cleared in abandoned fetus case

Posted on November 3, 2009 at 9:41 AM

PHOENIX (AP) — A Maricopa County Superior Court judge has dismissed the charges against a Mesa woman accused of abandoning her stillborn fetus in a backpack under a tree on the Gila River Indian Community.

Faith Hope Cadd had been accused of wrapping her newly-born infant in sheets and concealing the infant in a backpack earlier this year.

A police officer with the Gila River Indian Community discovered the baby boy while on routine patrol March 23 about five miles southeast of Sacaton.

Police say the baby still had the umbilical cord attached. It was found wrapped in vinyl sheeting and partly buried in a backpack.

The 22-year-old Caddo was arrested in April.

Authorities speculated at the time that the child could have been stillborn and that the death may not have involved foul play.
