PHOENIX (AP) — A court hearing in Phoenix for an Iraqi immigrant accused of killing his daughter because she had become too Westernized was delayed Thursday because he is on suicide watch in jail.
Court officials say the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office didn't transport Faleh Hassan Almaleki to court because of his status. He is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, but police say those will be upgraded considering his daughter's death.
Police in the Phoenix suburb of Peoria say Almaleki ran down his daughter and her boyfriend's mother on Oct. 20 with his Jeep. Noor Faleh Almaleki died Monday. The other woman is expected to survive.
Almaleki fled the country after the attack but was stopped at London's airport and sent back to the U.S.
