FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — A bad check cashing scheme involving more than $100,000 has led to the arrest of a Munds Park man.
A criminal complaint filed in Flagstaff Justice Court alleges 51-year-old Michael A. McClain III committed forgery, fraud, attempted theft and computer tampering.
The complaint alleges that McClain created and passed bad checks and temporarily took possession of illegally obtained proceeds.
A Flagstaff police report said two employees at First State Bank discovered the check fraud scheme on Sept. 16.
Police also served a search warrant on McClain's home and seized numerous items including blank checks, laptop computers and CDs.
After a forensic examination of the computers, McClain was arrested Saturday and remains in Coconino County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bond.
