TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A former Tucson city manager has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence and extreme DUI related to his September arrest in Oro Valley.

If he is convicted, prosecutors say Mike Hein could face a maximum of up to six months in jail, a maximum $2,500 fine and up to three years on probation.

Deputy Pima County Attorney Casey McGinley said if Hein is convicted of more than one charge, the sentences would be served at the same time.

Hein's next Pima County Justice Court date is scheduled for Dec. 8.

Earlier this month, Hein was hired as Pima County's director of emergency management and homeland security.

The Tucson City Council fired him in April, citing concerns about Rio Nuevo downtown redevelopment and budgeting decisions.
