NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) — U.S. Border Patrol agents say they have seized nearly 1,300 pounds of marijuana near the Arizona border.

Agents assigned to the Nogales Station were working near Amado on Sunday and were notified of possible illegal activity in the nearby desert. Agents used remote surveillance technology to saw two large groups of possible illegal immigrants.

The group members dispersed and fled into the desert when Border Patrol aircraft arrived and agents discovered 27 bundles of marijuana left behind.

The Border Patrol says the seized marijuana weighed 1,280 pounds and had an estimated street value of $960,000.
