Overnight fire claims life in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — The Tucson Fire Department is investigating a fatal fire Thursday morning in the midtown area.

Tucson police officers spotted the fire just before 2:15 a.m. on the 200 block of North Country Club, near Broadway.

Officers notified the Tucson Fire Department. They arrived on the scene in four minutes. Firefighters had the fire under control within half an hour.

During a search of the home, firefighters found a man inside.

He was taken to a local hospital but later died.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters do not know if there were working smoke detectors in the home at the time of the fire.

The Tucson Fire Department estimates there is $250,000 worth of damage to the home.
