MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Two people in a small plane walked away after their World War II-era training plane made an emergency landing at a Mesa park on Sunday morning and then hit a restroom building.
Mesa Fire Department spokesman Thor Watson says the Chinese-built Nanchang CJ-6A was on a flight with a paying passenger when the pilot had engine problems. Watson says the pilot safely landed the aircraft at the Red Mountain Multigenerational Center but had to swerve while taxiing to avoid a man and his dog.
The single-engine plane hit a cinderblock restroom building and damaged parts of its wall and roof. The restroom was closed and no one was inside.
The pilot wasn't hurt and the male passenger had only minor cuts. The plane suffered major damage.
