PHOENIX (AP) — A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for a deadly fire at a Phoenix youth center last summer.
John Antonucci pleaded guilty in November to manslaughter and arson. He was sentenced Friday.
Authorities accused Antonucci of starting the fire to cover up evidence that he had stolen money from Young Champions of America. A former employee, Antonucci was being investigated for embezzlement.
Authorities claim Antonucci and another man went to the building to burn it down. Antonucci was to stand guard outside, while the other man doused the building in gasoline.
Antonucci told authorities he heard a loud explosion and watched his accomplice come out of the building on fire. Court records say Antonucci left without calling for help and the man died.
