SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- San Francisco city officials are calling for a boycott of Arizona and businesses based there to protest the state's strict new immigration law.
The city attorney, Dennis Herrera, offered Monday to help with any challenges to the law. He says his teams will start determining which contracts between Arizona and the city and county of San Francisco and Arizona could be severed without penalty.
Herrera does not know how many businesses this could affect.
Several city supervisors are promising to introduce a resolution urging a citywide boycott of Arizona.
A rally outside City Hall called for immigration reform and applauded city officials' stance. They say laws like Arizona's would lead to racial profiling, and only a path to legalization would shield immigrants.
