Weather postpones Redington prescribed burn
07:40 PM MST on Tuesday, May 13, 2008
For the second straight day, the Agua Caliente prescribed burn in Redington Pass had to be halted due to weather conditions on Tuesday, May 13. Rain put a stop to fire activities after wind had forced an early end to the burn the previous day.
“Even though we are in the preliminary stages of blacklining the perimeter, we saw some movement of fire into the interior of the burn area,” said Deputy Santa Catalina District Ranger Sherry Tune. “It was doing an outstanding job with regards to the achievement of natural resource objectives.”
The primary objectives of the burn are to restore wildlife habitat, improve watershed conditions and reduce future wildfire potential in the area. Officials plan to resume the burn when weather and fuel conditions improve.
