07:26 PM MST on Wednesday, May 14, 2008
An economics teacher from Nogales High School has been selected from over 600 entrants for a national Teacher of the Year award. George Thompson was named the winner for his ideas on how to present Izzit.org educational videos and online teaching materials in the classroom.
Izzit.org is an organization of television producers who create educational DVDs, current events lessons and unique games and contests designed to peak curiosity and lead to lively classroom discussions.
For his efforts, Thompson won an all-expense paid trip to New York City where he will participate in the “Winning Ideas Weekend” held by the Free to Choose Network. At that time he will be presented with the David and Annette Jorgensen Award for Excellence, and will also be awarded $1,000 in cash.
