Midtown Shootout
09:58 AM MST on Monday, May 12, 2008
Tucson police say a domestic violence call in the 1500 block of east Prince Road led to one officer being stabbed, and another officer shot in the leg. A male suspect, 17 year old Travis Hylton, wounded in the shoulder is under arrest.
The initial call was to an apartment complex. The first officer, Ed Boyen, was stabbed by a man involved in the domestic violence call. Sgt. Fabian Pacheco says the man managed to take the Officer Boyen’s gun. Police say the suspect ambushed another officer and shot the officer in the leg. Officer David Friedman is hospitalized with non-life threatening wound. Officer Ed Boyen has been on the force 6 years. Officer Friedman has been on duty 10 months.
Other police officers chased the man down the street, exchanging gunfire.
Another police officer wounded the suspect and captured him. One area resident says a series of 5 and then perhaps 6 shots rang out before the suspect was captured.
Police Chief Richard Miranda is speaking to reporters right now.
