LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (AP) — The New Mexico Environment Department has fined Los Alamos National Laboratory nearly $1 million for failing to monitor nearby groundwater and surface water for pollution. Environment Secretary Ron Curry says reliable monitoring is needed to determine whether hazardous pollution from the lab's radioactive waste dump is reaching groundwater or the Rio Grande.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A grand jury has determined that an Albuquerque police officer was justified when he shot and killed a man in February. District Attorney Kari Brandenburg said yesterday that the Bernalillo County panel found that Officer Justin Montgomery acted legally when he shot 19-year-old Andrew Lopez.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The New Mexico Activities Association is offering fans the opportunity to purchase tickets online for Friday night's high school football playoff games in Albuquerque. Part of each ticket sold online will benefit the NMAA Foundation, which provides scholarships for students throughout New Mexico.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. Jeff Bingaman is scheduled to visit Gallup and the Navajo Nation today to discuss a new law creating the Navajo-Gallup pipeline. The water rights settlement is designed to provide future water for the Navajo Nation, Gallup and other New Mexicans who rely on San Juan Basin water.
