PARIS (AP) — Former world champion figure skater Brian Joubert of France has undergone surgery after injuring his right foot during training.
Surgery to repair a ligament in Joubert's foot was successful, the French Federation for Ice Sports said Friday.
Joubert, who will miss next week's Grand Prix final, landed awkwardly after attempting a triple lutz and sustained a deep cut to his right foot on Wednesday.
He hopes to return at the French championships Dec. 18-20. Joubert has said that his main goal this season is the gold medal at the Vancouver Olympics next year.
The 25-year-old Joubert won the Grand Prix in 2006 and was world champion in 2007. He is also a three-time European champion.
