DATELAND, Ariz. (AP) — Eight people suspected of carrying bundles of marijuana across the southern Arizona desert have been tracked and captured by the U.S. Border Patrol. Agents patrolling the desert near Dateland on Wednesday found two people hiding in a culvert; six others tried to run away but were captured. Six large bundles of marijuana weighing a total of 177 pounds were recovered.

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) — Yavapai County authorities have identified four men killed when a van plunged 100 feet off a road near Crown King. They're identified as Kevin Waycaster and his 16-year-old son Micah of Glendale and 67-year-old Garry Schneider of Phoenix. A fourth victim, Robert Fisher of Phoenix is in his 70's. The victims were from church groups taking part in a men's retreat in the area.

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — The City of Mesa has been running a nationwide search for the next police chief, but few outside of Arizona are interested in the post. The reasons range from difficulty in selling a home and fear that a spouse won't find a job. Mayor Scott Smith said he was surprised that few applicants are willing to move west.

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — A private Catholic high school in Chandler has received a $250,000 donation from a nearby American Indian tribe to build new classrooms. The Gila River Indian Community granted the money to Seton Catholic Preparatory High School this week to help pay for a new classroom building. The tribe uses 12 percent of its annual gaming revenues to benefit the general public.
