LOOKING FOR LIARS

KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) — Are you the world's best liar? Well, you're running out of time prove it. And that's no lie. The deadline to enter the 80th annual World Champion Lie contest is Dec. 15. The Burlington, Wisc. Liars' Club says they've received less than 50 entries so far. The club usually gets about 300 liars a year for its contest. The club president tells a local paper (Kenosha News) people must be taking life too seriously this year. For the record, Gareth Seehawer had the best lie last year. He says his "grandson is the most persuasive liar" he has ever met. Seehawer adds by the time the boy was 2 years old, "he could dirty his diaper and make his mother believe someone else had done it."

ROCK BAND RESEARCH

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — It's a good excuse to play video games -- for the sake of scientific research. Now, two Kansas State University psychology professors are studying how students play Rock Band. Clive Fullagar and Patrick Knight are researching what's known as flow. That's when people get so into what they're doing they lose all sense of time. The profs monitor students as they play guitar in Rock Band for an hour.

RAT CHALLENGE

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — It's a real rat race on one college campus. Students at Nebraska Wesleyan University are getting their rats ready for the annual Xtreme Rat Challenge on Dec. 8. It's been a campus tradition since 1974. These aren't ordinary rats you might find scurrying through an alley. The students have been training their rodents to run, jump and climb in a number of competitions. The winning rats get treats and gold medals. The students are graded on the success of their rats.

TONS OF POT

CALEXICO, Calif. (AP) — Customs agents are slamming the door on three tons of pot -- stashed in a shipment of door knobs. U.S. Customs and Border Protection reports seizing 6,000 pounds of marijuana at a cargo inspection area at the border about 120 miles east of San Diego. Authorities say the pot, packed in cardboard boxes, has a street value of nearly $6 million. The driver, a Mexican national, was also arrested. His name hasn't been released.

STOLEN BRAS

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Police in Nebraska report a couple of couples have a secret -- a Victoria's Secret. Officers are looking for two couples suspected of stealing 126 bras from the Victoria's Secret store at Omaha's Westroads Mall. The missing underthings are worth nearly 6,000 bucks. The stolen bras were in a variety of styles and sizes. Police say the two couples entered the store empty handed but left with several bags. For some reason, the store's security alarm wasn't triggered by sensors on the stolen bras.

JAILHOUSE SLOP

CLEVELAND (AP) — It's about as far from a gourmet meal as you can get. And that's just the way jailers want it. Lt. John Derchon of the Medina County, Ohio, Sheriff's Office describes nutraloaf as looking like "somebody regurgitated it in a pile." The meal in a loaf is served for breakfast, lunch and dinner to inmates being punished for offenses like attacking a guard or throwing a food tray. The Plain Dealer newspaper reports the jail makes its own loaf. The jail cooks blend together leftovers, shape it into a slab and then bake it.
