PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona is competing with 20 other states for a piece of a $4 billion federal education grant. The money would change the way schools operate. It would also base salary increases for teachers and administrators on students academic progress and test scores.

PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say an Arizona highway patrol officer has been seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle on I-17 near Munds Park south of Flagstaff. DPS says the accident occurred early Sunday morning as the officer was assisting with a collision along the northbound lane. Road conditions were icy and several vehicles became involved in a multi-vehicle pile-up.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Chains and snow tires are required for travel on highways leading to Mount Lemmon. The Forest Service closed all forest service roads in the Santa Catalina Mountains including the Ski Valley to Mount Lemmon Observatory. A winter storm advisory remains for the area through today.

NEW YORK (AP) — No tweeting during NBA games. The league fined Phoenix Suns forward Amare Stoudemire $7,500 for posting to a Twitter account during a game in violation of league rules. Stoudemire's Twitter feed was updated during the Suns' 126-111 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.
