WEST COVINA, Calif. (AP) — A judge in Southern California has lifted a seal on court records and transcripts involving a man who claims he spied on mosques in Orange County on behalf of the FBI.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Carol Williams Elswick on Thursday ordered unsealed 2007 court records related to a prior theft case against Craig Monteilh (MON-tay). The material is expected to be available later in the day.
Monteilh says the records include testimony from an FBI agent confirming Monteilh worked with the agency.
It's not immediately clear whether the records address the spying claim.
Monteilh claims the spying helped glean information about the brother-in-law of Osama bin Laden's bodyguard, and he is now seeking payment from the FBI.
