NEW YORK (AP) — A jury in Brooklyn is trying to decide whether a New Jersey blogger crossed the line by writing that three federal judges in Chicago "must die" for a decision on gun control.
The jury began deliberations Friday afternoon in the case of Hal Turner. It will resume on Monday.
Prosecutors say the North Bergen, N.J. man effectively threatened to assault or kill a federal judge when he wrote on the Internet that three federal judges in Chicago deserved to die.
He also posted their photographs and maps of the building where they worked.
Defense attorney Nishay Sanan told the jury Turner was just exercising his right to free speech.
He said in his closing argument that, "giving your opinion is not a crime."
