ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Key wildlife migration corridors between New Mexico and Colorado will be identified and protected as part of an initiative unveiled yesterday by the governors of both states. Gov. Bill Richardson and Gov. Bill Ritter of Colorado pledged to work together to protect corridors used by elk, deer, pronghorn, bighorn sheep and other species that cross between the two states.

LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (AP) — An X-ray machine at Los Alamos National Laboratory that's designed to check the reliability of the nation's nuclear stockpile completed its first-ever test of a mockup of a nuclear weapon component. The device produces X-rays images of events that take place in millionths of a second. The images allow scientists to study the details of early stages of a weapon's explosion.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Some legislators are asking whether a Hispanic Education Act proposed by Gov. Bill Richardson this week is even necessary. Should the proposal become law, the Public Education Department says it would be the first of its kind in the nation. Republican Sen. Vernon Asbill of Carlsbad says the department already has authority to focus on Hispanic students.

PHOENIX (AP) — Several construction projects to increase Union Pacific's freight-moving capacity on the railroad's main line across southern Arizona and New Mexico are being temporarily sidetracked by the recession.
