RENO, Nev. (AP) — The first woman elected to Congress from Nevada is painting a bleak outlook for her fellow Republicans in the coming elections.
Former seven-term congresswoman Barbara Vucanovich says the GOP challengers trying to unseat Democratic Senator Harry Reid next fall face an "uphill" battle.
She said on KRNV-TV's "Nevada Newsmakers" on Tuesday that is primarily because Reid's huge campaign warchest keeps growing thanks in part to help from GOP business leaders who argue Nevada needs his clout in Congress.
Reid already is half way to his goal of raising $25 million for the race.
Vucanovich says many prominent Republicans are supporting him because they think his powerful position as Senate leader ultimately helps their business.
