PHOENIX -- Technology led Phoenix police to an apartment complex Wednesday night where a woman was seriously injured.

The “shot spotter” detects shots fired in Glendale and notifies officers of the incident.

The device was activated at about midnight, sending officers to an apartment complex near 67th Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

When they arrived, residents directed the officers to an apartment that had a blood trail leading to the door.

Officers apparently knocked on the door, but there was no answer, so out of concern for the victim, they broke down the door.

Once inside, officers found a 25-year-old woman who thought someone had hit her with a chair. She did not believe she had been shot, but officers said the “shot spotter” is very accurate.

Officers searched the area and said they found gun shells.

The woman was rushed to the hospital and is reportedly in serious condition.

Authorities are waiting for a doctor to determine whether the woman was shot.

Police said they have no suspects, but are investigating the incident.
