(KMOV) - A 13-year-old girl is stabbed to death, and a 12-year-old boy is in custody.
Authorities have identified the victim as Alexus Purtty.
Family members of the girl tell police that she and a neighborhood boy had been arguing for several days.
Police aren't sure, but say it's possible that argument was about stolen fireworks and that it may have led to this girl's death.
Police suspect the 12-year-old boy stabbed the girl at or near a home in the 3800 block of St. Louis Avenue in north St. Louis.
It's not clear this morning if the girl's family members witnessed the stabbing, but they did try to rush her to the hospital themselves when a police officer spotted their speeding car and pulled it over a little after 11 p.m. last night, discovering the girl badly injured inside.
An ambulance rushed to the scene for the girl while her mother explained that the girl was arguing with a 12-year-old when she says he stabbed the girl.
Though paramedics were seen frantically trying to revive the girl, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The girl's mother was also injured as she tried to break up the fight between the two.
The 12-year-old is in custody though police are not yet saying what charges he could be facing.
