Phoenix man locked child in toy box, convicted of child abuse

PHOENIX -- A Valley man has been convicted of two counts of child abuse in the death of his 2-year-old daughter, Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas said Friday.
In August 2005, Eric Joseph Natzel was watching his daughter at the family's Phoenix apartment while his wife was working. He's alleged to have locked the child inside the toy box and the girl suffocated.
Thomas said an autopsy revealed abrasions cause by the child's struggle to get out of the box. Examiners also found bruises to the girl's back and head that were not the result of the child being trapped.
Sentencing is set for March 14.
