An annual event to promote literacy among the community is planned, focusing on how the ability to read affects the local economy.
The Tucson Area Literacy Coalition (TALC) will present the 9th annual literacy summit entitled “Literacy’s Impact on the Local Economy,” where literacy service providers and instructors are scheduled to attend.
The summit will offer various workshops covering topics such as knowing the best approach to teaching literacy, as well as provide opportunities for Tucson area residents to raise their literacy standards.
Topics discussed at the event will include financial literacy, family literacy and improving literacy skills in a cross-cultural environment.
According to a news release, this year’s literacy summit was organized with contributions from the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, Pima County Public Libraries and Pima Community College Adult Education.
The literacy summit is planned for Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at El Rio Learning Center. The workshop portion of the event will take place 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
A continental breakfast and lunch will be served to those in attendance. The literacy summit is free and open to the public. For more information, click here.
