08:12 PM MST on Tuesday, April 10, 2007
Due to a record number of participants expected to show, more volunteers are needed to help at this year’s race to benefit women with breast cancer and cancer survivors.
According to a news release, more than 13,000 individuals have already registered for the 9th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
This annual community event raises substantial funds to combat breast cancer. It also raises awareness while celebrating women who have beat the disease and honoring those who lost their battle with cancer.
“We anticipate a record number of people to come out and support this year’s Race for the Cure, and we need a record number of volunteers to help us,” Executive Director of the Southern Arizona Komen affiliate Beverly Davies said. “We need all the volunteers we can gather to pull off such a significant event.”
Individuals who wish to participate can still register for the race taking place Saturday, April 15 at Reid Park.
A free shuttle will transport participants to and from the park at no charge starting 6 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
