New trash collection schedule for Nogales residents
08:17 PM MST on Monday, July 2, 2007
A pilot program has been launched by the mayor in Nogales to address resident concerns.
Mayor Ignacio Barraza announced that a new residential trash and recyclable collection services program will start on July 9.
This effort was taken to address concerns by residents who had requested a return to twice-a-week collection for organic waste materials while recyclable materials will continue to be collected once a week.
“The major problem that our residents face is that by having organic trash collected once a week, it creates offensive and foul odors attracting maggot infestations especially during the summer months,” Mayor Barraza explains.
The City of Nogales plans to advertise the new trash collection schedule through local media outlets as well as provide the new schedule to every household in the monthly water bill.
Beginning July 9, residential collection services will begin at 5 a.m. and the new schedule will proceed as follows:
-On Mondays and Tuesdays (depending on route) city employees will collect organic waste materials only.
-On Thursdays and Fridays (depending on route) city employees will collect organic waste and recyclable materials in their respective containers.
