Safe Kids celebrates 'successful' first year in Tucson

A local non-profit organization that works to keep children safe will celebrate their first year in Tucson with an anniversary party.
The Tucson Safe Kids Coalition, an agency that focuses on the prevention of accidental childhood injury, plans to reflect on the past year as well as discuss goals for the future of the organization.
According to a news release, Safe Kids put an emphasis on topics such as airway obstruction, bike and car safety, fires and burns, poison and water safety during its first year in Tucson.
The news release indicates the organization participated in various community events and partnered with local retailers in its efforts to reduce adolescent injuries and eliminate childhood deaths.
Safe Kids utilizes a variety of resources that includes public safety officers, area hospitals and community partners as a way of continuously educating the public on ways to keep children safe.
The coalition hopes to increase community support and welcomes the help of anyone who feels strongly about child safety.
The organization's anniversary party is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on August 14 at the Tucson Police Department Hardesty Building, located at 22nd Street and Alvernon Way.
