Open house meetings planned regarding Saguaro National Park
08:40 PM MST on Thursday, August 16, 2007
Three informal meetings are scheduled so that the public can learn more about one of Arizona’s national parks and make suggestions as to how it should be managed.
Saguaro National Park staff will host three open house public meetings on September 5 and 6 as a way of presenting information and discussing management alternatives.
Also addressed will be an alternative draft for the park’s General Management Plan, which would outline how the park’s resources and recreations will be managed for the next 15 to 20 years.
According to a news release, the open houses are intended to be informal forums where community members can share ideas on issues and concerns relating to the park.
“We want this to be a relaxed atmosphere where people feel free to share their views and listen to the views of others,” Saguaro National Park Superintendent Sarah Craighead said. “This is an important step in reviewing the proposed management alternatives.”
Also on hand will be National Park Service experts who will answer any questions the public may have, as well as record public comments.
The public may also enter comments online or by filling out a comment form and mailing it to the National Park Service.
The following is a list of the three scheduled Saguaro National Park open house meetings:
-Wednesday, September 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Amethyst Room at the Pima Community College downtown campus, located on 255 N. Stone Avenue.
-Wednesday, September 5 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of Picture Rocks Intermediate School, located at 5875 N. Sanders Road.
-Thursday, September 6 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Community Room at the Pima Community College east campus, located at 8181 E. Irvington Road.
