Closures on Euclid during bridge installation

08:08 PM MST on Tuesday, August 28, 2007

By Alicia BarrĂ³n, Fox 11 News

A highly-traveled Tucson street will have lane restrictions during the installation of a bicycle and pedestrian bridge.

Southbound Euclid Avenue between 12th Street and 18th Street will be closed from 4:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. on August 29 and August 31 to allow workers to unload a section of the Euclid/Park bicycle and pedestrian bridge from a flatbed truck.

A media release from the City of Tucson indicates drivers traveling southbound on Euclid will be diverted to the northbound lanes. One lane of travel will be open in each direction.

All travel lanes on northbound and southbound Euclid/Park Avenue will be closed on August 31 starting at 10 p.m. so that crews can install a section of the bicycle and pedestrian bridge above the street. This area is scheduled to re-open for travel at 6 a.m. on Monday, September 3.

The portion of Euclid impacted by these closures is just south of Broadway.

During this closure, the media release indicates S. Toole Avenue just north of the Broadway underpass will reopen to allow drivers access to the South Toole business district. The street has been closed as part of the Fourth Avenue Underpass Improvement Project.

According the media release, construction on the bridge began in January of this year. Crews will install a 240-foot bicycle/pedestrian bridge over Euclid just north of the Barraza/Aviation Parkway.

This project will connect an existing bike path at the Park Avenue/14 Street cul-de-sac to another path on west Euclid Avenue, which connects to the Diamondback Bridge over Broadway.

When completed, the bridge will allow bicyclists downtown access from southeast Tucson.
