Cancer awareness events planned throughout October

More than 25 events are planned in Southern Arizona to celebrate October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The various festivities and get-togethers are a way of educating the community about breast health in collaboration with the Southern Arizona affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The following is a list of events scheduled to take place throughout the month of October:

PASSIONATELY PINK FOR THE CURE™

Throughout the Entire Month of October!!!

Pick your pink. Play your part. End breast cancer.  Pick any day in October, get a group together, make a $5 or more personal contribution to the Komen Foundation and wear pink to share the promise of finding a cure.  Register at www.komen.org or call (520) 319-0155

 

 

5th ANNUAL GET TIED TO THE CURE®

Saturday, October 6

9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Safeway

(Broadway & Campbell)

The Komen Southern Arizona Affiliate’s 5th Annual Get Tied to the Cure® will be held at Safeway.  Come enjoy the excitement, receive free breast health education materials, free t-shirts and lots more!  In addition to tying EVERY car with a pink ribbon, women who qualify through the WellWoman Healthcheck Program will receive a free mammogram.  Must schedule in advance.

SCRAP PINK

Saturday, Sept  29

Join the scrapbook mania by participating in the Scrap Pink event for $20. The event will include prizes, contests, pink treats and 50% of the fee will go to the Cure. A contest will take place for the month of September as a salute to “A special woman in my Life.” For $5 you can create a page and the judging will take place at the 29th event. Komen volunteers and friends… come and enjoy a cup of coffee at Brighton Collectibles in Park Place Mall.  The new “2007 Power of Pink” bracelet, necklace and earrings will be available to purchase. $10 for each bracelet and necklace and $5 for each set of earrings will be donated to The Southern Arizona Affiliate of  Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN SERENADE COMPETITION

WACOAL– Fit for the Cure

For every woman who participates in the event by receiving a complimentary fitting in a Wacoal, DKNY Underwear or Donna Karan Intimates bra from a Wacoal fit specialist, Wacoal will donate $2.00 to the local affiliate. Wacoal will offer the “Wacoal Prominse”, providing every women who signs up at a Fit for the Cure event with a complimentary email reminder to conduct a monthly breast self-exam. During the month of October Wacoal will donate $2.00 for every iBra and Awareness Bra sold.

SHOP FOR THE CURE

Purchase a Shop for the Cause discount card for $5 and enjoy a day of shopping at Macy’s with 10-20% discounts throughout the store. Macy’s will donate 100% of the cost of the card to The Southern Arizona Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. NATIONAL MAMMOGRAPHY DAY

Awareness… The third Friday in October each year is National Mammography Day, first proclaimed by President Clinton in 1993. On this day, or throughout the month, some radiologists provide discounted services. For more information please visit http://www.nbcam.org/promote_october.cfm.  Women who don’t have insurance or their insurance doesn’t cover a mammogram are encouraged to contact the Pima County Health Department WellWoman Healthcheck Program at (520) 628-3591.

Drag Racing and Car Show to benefit Breast Cancer Awareness… the Southern Arizona Mustang Club presents it’s all Ford vehicle drag race, car show and swap meet at the

 

Southwestern International Raceway.  Entry fees are $10 for spectators, $5 for high school students, military & seniors and free for kids under 10 years old.
