Imposters trying to capitalize on amoeba scare
08:06 PM MST on Tuesday, October 9, 2007
Individuals claiming to be city employees are allegedly using a recent amoeba scare to try and gain entry into local residences.
Tucson Water was recently made aware of individuals who claim to be testing tap water for Naegleria fowleri, the “brain-eating” amoeba that was recently found in Tucson Water’s chlorinated drinking water system.
According to a media release, the imposters were trying to sell home water treatment equipment.
Tucson Water indicates their employees do not conduct water quality tests unless prior arrangements have been made, although there are circumstances such as a main break when customers will be directly contacted by employees without previous notice.
The media release indicates residents can identify Tucson Water employees by their uniforms, which include a Tucson Water logo on the front. They also drive marked City of Tucson/Tucson Water vehicles. Water employees also carry a photo identification card issued by the city.
If you have any questions regarding the imposters, you may call Tucson Water at (520) 791-4331.
