A new coordinator has been hired by the city to implement a solar initiative over the next two years.
Bruce Plenk will serve as solar energy coordinator for a grant-funded Tucson Solar Initiative expected to expand the city’s solar market.
A media release indicates Tucson is one of 13 recipients to receive a $200,000 grant from Solar American cities through the U.S. Department of Energy.
The Arizona Energy Office, TEP, the Tucson/Pima County Metropolitan Energy Commission and the Greater Tucson Coalition for Solar will partner with the city to provide both support and $353,000 in matching funds.
Funds from the grant, according to the media release, will also be used to transform local financial and informational barriers into more opportunities for solar installations.
