Pascua Yaqui Tribe to fund diabetes management program
07:57 PM MST on Thursday, April 10, 2008
The Pascua Yaqui Tribe has pledged $205,000 to continue to support the Clinical Pharmacist diabetes management program at El Rio Community Health Center. The Tribal Council made a multi-year pledge in 2004 to expand the pharmacy-based program at the Pascua Yaqui reservation.
“The generous funding of this treatment program will have a significant positive impact on these families,” said Brenda Goldsmith, Executive Director of El Rio Foundation. “What we are doing here is working together to change lives for the better for generations to come.”
The program has served over 1,000 Yaquis since it’s inception and has received national attention for it’s success. It has led to a significant drop in nerve, eye and kidney damage among patients, lowering annual medical costs for the clinic.
