Alamo fire burns over four thousand acres

United States wildland firefighters are combining their efforts with Mexican bomberos to try and contain the Alamo fire which is burning just west of Nogales on both sides of the border. In addition firefighting officials from the U.S. and Mexico have established a unified operations effort and launched a joint planning process to battle the blaze.
There are over 170 firefighters working on the American side of the border and Mexico has about a dozen bomberos on the fire line. Three helicopters and two air tankers are being utilized to slow the spread of the fire.
It has burned over 4,000 acres since starting on Friday morning. The fire is located in a very remote area of the Coronado National Forest.
No buildings have been damaged or threatened, however structure protection units are standing by on two nearby ranches to defend them from the fire if necessary. Officials say the fire was human caused.
