Prescribed burn set for Redington Pass
07:50 PM MST on Thursday, May 8, 2008
The Coronado National Forest has scheduled a 2-day prescribed fire starting Monday, May 12, on 11,000 acres of land in the area of Agua Caliente Hill in Redington Pass. The burn will be conducted to reduce heavy accumulations of brush in order to restore wildlife habitat, improve watershed conditions and reduce future wildfire potential.
The burn is dependent on weather and vegetation conditions, so the ignition date may be changed, and if the burn cannot be completed during the week of May 12 or soon after, it would likely be postponed until next fall.
The burn area will be closed to the public, and access to Redington Pass will be limited during the operation. On days that the burn takes place, a pilot car will lead through traffic between the end of the pavement on Redington Road to milepost 11. More information on the burn is available at www.fs.fed.us/r3/coronado .
