Man convicted on drug, firearm charges

07:51 PM MST on Thursday, May 8, 2008

By Jim Edwards, Fox 11 News

A 35-year old Mexican man has been sentenced to 184 months in U.S. federal prison on drug, firearm and immigration offenses. Urbano Nario-Marquez was found guilty earlier this year of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to deliver cocaine base, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm by an illegal alien, and possession of a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking offense.

Officials say on September 1, 2005, Nario-Marquez had crack cocaine, powder cocaine and a .38 caliber handgun with him when he was stopped by Tucson police for traffic violations. Further investigation revealed that Nario-Marquez had been deported from the U.S. twice, in 2000 and in 2003, following convictions in Pima County Superior Court and U.S. District Court in Tucson.
