A 33-year old Tucson eye surgeon is charged with fraudulently writing prescriptions for two drugs for her own use. Dr. Melanie McCarty was indicted on four counts of obtaining a dangerous drug by fraudulent means.
According to deputies, Dr. McCarty obtained Lunesta and Phentermine by filling out a prescription for herself and then falsifying a prescribing physician’s name and credentials. She then allegedly presented the prescriptions to various Tucson pharmacies. The investigation was launched when one pharmacy questioned the authenticity of the prescription.
