A man is under arrest, accused of shooting an 8-year old child in the head while he was playing on his swing set in his south side backyard on Monday, July 14. 18-year old Jonathan Muniz, who lives in the 5700 block of South Southland, faces one count of aggravated assault causing serious physical injury, and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The child was taken to UMC and underwent surgery. He is listed in critical but stable condition. The victim’s four-year old brother was also in the backyard at the time of the shooting, but was not hurt.

Tucson Police say Muniz was shooting a rifle off in the backyard of a nearby home at around 2 p.m. when the 8-year old was hit. Muniz later turned himself in after hearing that he was a suspect.
