07:09 PM MST on Thursday, July 17, 2008
Thirty illegal aliens were arrested following two pursuits of fleeing vehicles by Border Patrol agents on Thursday, July 17.
The first incident happened early in the morning when a Dodge van sped away when agents tried to pull it over on I-10 near Casa Grande. The van exited into the city of Case Grande, where Casa Grande police joined the pursuit. The van stopped near the intersection of Val Vista and Pinal, and about 30 people ran into a nearby field. Agents and police were able to take 23 people into custody including the driver.
The second incident took place when agents from the Willcox station noticed a suspicious white Chevrolet merging onto I-10 from Highway 90. When agents tried to get close to read the license plate, the driver turned off the freeway and drove through a fence. The vehicle stopped after a short distance, and all occupants fled the vehicle. Agents were able to arrest seven illegal aliens, but the driver was not accounted for.
